Abstract: The article deals with the grammatical and lexical peculiarities of the business discourse on the basis of English version of the international document “Directive 2009/28/EC of the European parliament and of the council of 23 April 2009 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources”. The main attention is devoted to the difficulties that were facing students working on translation of the document into Ukrainian within specialist introduction practice. Students had the opportunity to contrast, analyse and compare their own translations with the official Ukrainian version of the document that can be found on the web-site of the Official Journal of the European Union. The actuality of the business discourse choice for the translation for students is caused by the enlarged international relations of Ukraine with the European Union countries, the increased volumes of business documentation that needs translation and the necessity of the high-quality preparation of translators in this field. Through translation process some special features of the business discourse have been revealed, mainly a large number of complex subordinated clauses, a tendency to use passive voice rather than active, a great number of participial constructions and infinitive clauses, a frequent usage of gerund, “of+noun” constructions, repeated patterns of anaphora. As far as the lexical peculiarities are concerned the usage of special terminology, abbreviations, neologisms have been singled out. The emphasis on the mentioned special features is very important, because they have been the educational material during organization practice process. The grammatical transformations used to achieve adequacy of translation have been studied in details. The ways to render abbreviations, names of organizations, corporations and units are analysed thoroughly to help students to choose proper equivalents through their work on translation of the Directive.
